Head Routesetter (Full-Time) - Posted 11/16/21

Are you ready to make an impact? Triangle Rock Club – Richmond is looking for a Head Setter to support 28,000 sq/ft of terrain and a growing crew of Setters. TRC RVA is the largest indoor climbing facility in Richmond, and includes dedicated fitness and yoga rooms, a spa with sauna, steam room, and hot tub, and Walltopia walls with two cracks, a speed climbing wall, and a hydraulic systems wall.

We believe that a Head Routesetter is more than a great Routesetter, as they are leaders who inspire, motivate, and collaborate with others. Are you ready to oversee a crew of supporting route setters, foster a strong work ethic, and help that crew grow and thrive? Are you interested in playing a significant role in the growth and diversity that defines our climbing community?

TRC Richmond’s Head Routesetter is responsible for setting and forerunning both routes and boulders, managing and developing setters, maintaining and adjusting route inventory to match customer needs, and planning and executing events. This position reports to the Club Director, working with the Club Director and the Director of Routesetting to ensure the setting program meets the gym’s goals and members’ needs, as well as embodies the vision of TRC Routesetting.

Applicants should be eager to improve personal setting and climbing skills, as well as management skills required to run an efficient and effective setting crew. In addition, applicants will need a strong work ethic and the ability to meet a demanding schedule. A positive attitude, solid problem-solving skills, high level communication skills, humility, and an appropriate, professional demeanor are required.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Schedule weekly setting tasks to meet route and boulder turnover rate as advised by the Club Director
  • Set and maintain a diversity of high-quality routes/problems for all sizes/abilities of climbers
  • Forerun and/or manage forerunning for quality assurance and consistent grading across sets
  • Manage a team of routesetters, including hiring and training new Setters
  • Organize and maintain routesetting supplies as well as an orderly routesetting room
  • Communicate with Program Manager to meet the needs of youth and other programming
  • Regularly inspect setting hardware, equipment, and supplies
  • Assist with routine rope inspections, auto-belays, and other climbing equipment
  • Continuously seek opportunities to develop personal setting and leadership skills

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Mandatory

  • At least 5 years route setting experience
  • Experience managing and motivating a small staff
  • Knowledge of rope systems and technical equipment
  • Strong communication skill
  • Experience mentoring other setters
  • Ability to work 30+ hours/week in a physical capacity and ability to lift 45+ pounds
  • Ability to work at heights with technical equipment
  • Willingness to work extended hours and outside normal business hours for competitions and gym events

Preferred

  • Experience in an established commercial setting program
  • Prior leadership/management experience
  • USAC Level II Setter Certification
  • Experience setting USAC Local and Championship competitions - Set and work 5.13

Floor Staff (Part-Time)

Love climbing, working with kids, and are interested in sharing your passion for the sport with a younger generation? We’re looking to fill several school-year Track Out Camp Staff positions for the year. This position requires daytime availability during the weekday.

Programs Staff - Event Belayers (Part-Time)

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Triangle Rock Club’s mission is to “transform and enhance the lives of others by enthusiastically sharing our passion for climbing and fitness.” Program Staff are central to facilitating this mission and helping create a best in class experience for our Members and Guests.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to –

  • Create a phenomenal experience for all guests in a designated Programs group from the beginning to the end of their visit. Group Visit operations include group management, belaying, working in a team environment and more.
  • Follow all standard operating procedures with regards to each type of group visit including. but not limited to, helping with check in as needed, providing a thorough group orientation, demonstrating correct belay technique and assisting with clean up duties.
  • Ensure a constant emphasis is placed on customer engagement by: coaching, encouraging, and problem solving with guests to help them climb; providing constant group control to maintain gym etiquette and facility rules; and educating group organizers about products and services offered by TRC when applicable.
  • Any and all tasks as requested by Management.

Group Exercise Instructor (Part-Time)

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

TRC’s Group Exercise Instructor is directly involved and responsible for providing safe, effective and fun exercises to groups participating in classes/activities at the Richmond location.  Classes include, but are not limited to: Strength and Conditioning, HIIT Intervals, Plyometrics, Functional Strength Training, Core, and Mobility.  The Group Exercise Instructor position is under the Fitness Department and he/she must have a constant awareness for risk management and delivering a phenomenal customer service experience to the TRC community, members and guests relative to fitness classes.

Instructor Responsibilities:

  • Provide a phenomenal customer experience for the community, giving priority to risk management, guest/member engagement, facility rules and gym etiquette
  • Ability to lead 2 or more of the following style classes – HIIT, Strength and Conditioning, Core and or Mobility
  • Demonstrate the ability to teach a safe, fun, and creative class
  • Must be able to teach to all levels and provide movement modifications when needed
  • Create a class experience that shows your personality and skills while adhering to TRC Standards and Policies
  • Remains current on certifications and new trends in the industry
  • Create a personal connection and relationship with students
  • Set up studio appropriately: music, equipment, etc.
  • Provide excellent instruction that is consistent with the class format and TRC Philosophy
  • Attentively listens to members, answers questions, and engages in conversation before and after classes
  • Clean studio space and all equipment

REQUIREMENTS & PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • Primary Group Exercise Certification – ACE, AFAA or similar nationally accredited certification required
  • Personal trainer certified preferred
  • CPR/AED and First Aid Certification or willing to obtain within 3 months of employment
  • 1+ years’ experience and actively teaching
  • Willing and available to teach a minimum of 2-4 classes per week
  • Outgoing personality with a strong ability to connect with guests and members
  • Demonstrate the ability to teach a safe, fun, and creative class
  • Have a strong desire to help grow the TRC Fitness Programs

Team TRC Lead Coach (Full-Time)

We are looking for a Lead Coach for the TRC-RVA competitive climbing program. The Lead Coach will plan training schedules, plan and lead practices, recruit Team TRC climbers, and develop a community for the Team TRC climbers with functions outside of practice (e.g.: potlucks, community service, teambuilding).

2022 Summer Camp Counselor

Looking for an opportunity to work with kids and share your love of climbing? We are currently hiring camp counselors for Summer 2022! Duties include belaying, leading games, teaching lessons, and being a positive and encouraging part of the summer for kids ages 6 to 16. This is a seasonal position (June 2022 through August 2022).
