We have a team of creative design specialists who dedicate their work days to thinking outside the box and using their skills to create new climbing routes at all of our facilities. Thanks to them, our terrain is always exciting, challenging and up to par with the expectations of our climbers. Each week, our talented team of routesetters rotates between our locations and work together to craft innovative climbing problems for climbers of all skill levels.
Get to know our setters and make sure you thank them when you see them around our facilities – these folks play a huge role in making Triangle Rock Club what it is and rarely get enough kudos for their hard work!
Our Head Routesetter. A native of the NC mountains, Scott moved to Triangle before he discovered climbing and his love for the sport. He has since tackled long routes in the western U.S. and, with a passion for steep gear routes, Scott has spent numerous days cragging in all over the country, especially here in his native Southeast. After ten years in management and marketing in the tech sector, TRC is Scott’s second life. Scott served on the Board of Directors of the Carolina Climbers’ Coalition for eight years, but now spends his extra time playing music with his phenomenal band, Phononova!
Jay’s passion for climbing and joy for volunteering earned him Triangle Rock Club’s 2017 Member of the Year award. He followed that up in 2018 being awarded Triangle Rock Club Fayetteville’s Summit Award. When he’s not in the climbing gym or climbing outside (usually Boone or Pilot Mountain), he is practicing yoga. Yoga and climbing gave Jay the ability to heal his body and take himself to a fitness level that he never thought possible. Jay lives in Fayetteville with his dog, Zack, and two cats, Autumn and Ollie.
Sebastian started climbing at the age of 5 and entered competitions at age 12. He has been route setting for 4 years. This is a great opportunity for him to create fun ways to encourage people to learn certain moves. Sebastian’s favorite place to climb is Horseshoe Canyon Arkansas because of the technical prowess.
Travis has been climbing for 18 years and route setting for 15 years. He has set routes at and organized climbing competitions. Travis has climbed around the southeast as well as Colorado and Oregon, on boulders, sport and trad.
